Our Trainers - Atapini
Atapini holds a B.A (joint Hons) in Psychology and Education from Cardiff University. She is a qualified Social Worker (Dip.SW, Cardiff), with several years’ experience in the field of Probation and Child Protection. During this period of her career, she specialised in Cognitive Behavioural group work. She has a part-time qualification in youth work and has experience of setting up and providing community-based group work activities. As part of her ongoing development, Atapini attends regular retreats , many of which are with experienced meditation teachers. She is of the opinion that ongoing support for sustained practice is as important for trainers as for course participants, as we teach from our own personal experience and the depth of our own mindfulness practice. Atapini began her involvement with Breathworks in 2004, when she participated in the first training event offered by the founding members. In 2005 she participated in a course in order to learn skills to manage her own health condition. In 2006 she completed her training, becoming an accredited Breathworks trainer. Around this time she became part of the International Training Team for three years, assisting the founders in delivering their training programmes. These are delivered to people from all over the world. In September 2007, she began to develop the Breathworks Cardiff project, which was established as a legal concern in May 2008. Since 2006, Atapini and her colleagues have provided courses for living well with pain, chronic illness and stress to over 100 participants. Atapini and her colleagues have provided introductory mindfulness sessions for carers, the local university, patient support groups and counsellors. In 2009 she and her team delivered a workshop on kindly awareness at the Welsh Psychotherapy Conference in Cardiff. Atapini has also provided mindfulness supervision for an M.A student from Bangor University.
